Know the watts? Change them here (optional)
Use electrical input watts from the equipment label. These are examples, not measured Iraqi averages.
Let’s find your size.
Choose appliances, then calculate. The dial shows progress, not a measured load percentage.
An estimate, not a measurement or approved model selection. Actual starting behaviour, phase balance, duty, summer temperatures and ventilation must be checked before purchase.
Power planning for real life in Iraq.
From a family home in Baghdad to a shop in Basra or a business in Erbil, start with the equipment you need to run together. Air conditioners, refrigeration, water pumps and future additions can change the generator you need.
TAR checks summer ambient temperatures, dust, ventilation, installation altitude, operating hours and prime or standby duty. The selected technical sheets use 400/230 V, 50 Hz ratings; a qualified electrician must confirm your actual installation, voltage and phase requirements.
How the estimate works
Running kW = total appliance input watts × quantities ÷ 1,000. Running kVA adds each load’s kW ÷ its assumed power factor. Starting kVA assumes the selected loads start together and multiplies each load’s kVA by its starting multiplier.
The planning capacity is the largest of running kVA, starting kVA and running kW ÷ 0.8, multiplied by 1.25 and rounded up to the next whole kVA. This is a simplified screening method, not a transient simulation.

All appliance values and 25% headroom are editable or stated planning assumptions. Actual motor starters, inverter equipment, nonlinear loads and restart sequencing can change the result. Final sizing requires manufacturer data and qualified review.
FG Wilson professional sizing: GenSelect ↗Generator advice for Iraq
How do I size a generator for my home or business in Iraq?
Choose the equipment that will run together, use its input watts, and allow for motor starting and future growth. TAR checks phase, prime or standby duty, ventilation and site conditions before confirming a generator.
Does the result include room for future appliances?
Yes. This planning estimate adds 25% headroom after the starting-load calculation. Tell TAR about planned air conditioners, pumps or other large loads; these may require more capacity.
Can I convert air-conditioner tons or BTU directly to input watts?
No. Cooling output differs from electrical input. Use the input watts or kW on the equipment label; example values in this calculator are editable assumptions.
Is this a guaranteed FG Wilson model selection?
No. A provisional capacity match uses selected TAR technical sheets at 50 Hz prime rating. TAR must confirm the actual model, phase balance, transient performance, ambient conditions and availability. Small loads may need a different solution.
